Menstruation Is Not Normal

Reparations should involve a healing of the African psyche. Black people must seek to restore a holistic balance that was at the core of their primordial greatness. Once the African collective mind is fully "repaired" and in sync with it's ancestral legacy, mother earth and her corresponding inhabitants shall also benefit. -Dr. Imhotep Llaila Afrika, author of African Holistic Health (1994)

Are you still having periods? What's in your diet? Here is an excerpt about the abnormality of bleeding, taken from the book African Holistic Health by Dr. Imhotep Llaila O. Afrika

"Menstruation is not normal"

By Dr.Imhotep Llaila O. Afrika

"Menstruation is not a normal health state. Menstruation is hemorrhaging. Hemorrhaging is a flow of fresh blood. Hemorrhaging whether it occurs in the brain, eyes, lungs or uterus, is not normal. Subsequently, menstruation is an abnormal condition. There are many views on the causes of menstruation. However, they are ill-rounded and totally wrong. Black African females on a wholistic diet of natual foods do no menstruate.

Anthropological studies on African women have verified that Wholistic women do not menstruate (see chapter on cultural clowns, Black folks and sex)

Wholistic women follow natural breeding cycles. These natural breeding (mating) cycles have strict laws. Similarly, a woman must never have sexual intercourse while pregnant or while breastfeeding. Breastfeeding traditionallly lasted from three to five years.Intercourse while pregnant causes the body to alter its hormone level and also causes the body to produce a different quality of cells in the baby's body.Consequently, sexual intercourse while a woman is pregnant or breeding decreases the quality of the life of the unborn child. Excessive sexual intercourse and out-of-cycle sexual intercourse causes the woman to menstruate. Moreover, sexual intercourse at night is abnormal and out-of-cycle. Additionallly, lustful or excessive sexual stimulation causes the woman's and man's hormones and nutritional levels to decrease. This also contributes to the causes of menstruation (hemorrhaging) and a multitude of health problems in children.

Is Your Menstruation Healthy? Probably Not…

Last week I began writing, “Is Your Menstruation Healthy?,” and this topic is so controversial that I found it challenging to write about it. There are women and feminist movements who seek to remove the shame of menstruation. Women have written numerous books, which seem to glorify menses. Just to clarify, I fully support the removal of stigmas as long as women remain open to the possibility that “the flow” is unhealthy.

The other reason this has been challenging is due to the absence of expert female literature. By “expert” I mean women in the healing community who have seen and/or documented a significant number of cases. Many men have written on the subject and one sources female-led studies in his book. Nonetheless, my female perspective is mostly based upon women in the fruitarian and raw food communities via blogs and forums.

Some scientists have proclaimed menstruation unnatural based on observations of animals as well as humans. The most comprehensive book that I could find on the subject is THE PHYSIOLOGICAL ENIGMA OF WOMAN: The Mystery Of Menstruation by Raymond Bernard. He writes,

“Among animals living in a state of nature, except certain apes, menstruation is unknown; however under conditions of domestication, periodic bloody discharge have been observed in various animals….This menstruation of domesticated animals, in view of its absence among wild animals of the same species, clearly indicates that menstruation in such instances is unnatural and results from artificial conditions of feeding and confinement.”

Bernard makes a similar comparison between various cultures of women, “This is indicated by the statement of Wiltshire that in many savage tribes women menstruate at intervals of several months, and only at very infrequent intervals among women of Lapland, the Faroe Islands, Tierra del Fuego, and some parts of Paraguay. In fact certain tribes are reported to exist in Brazil and India whose women are free from menstruation.”
